No you  are right  - rich foor patay, pheasant etc is meant to give gout

but a lot of us metabolise it slowly and get gout.

so the theory  has changed for the last 200 y.

I've had gout, and I was prescribed Allopurinol tablets. I haven't had gout since that day, and I take one tablet every day.

My sister suffers from gout and yet is tea total.

My ex's mother died from cirrhosis and was also tea total.

So stop spouting wind from your backside...

Gout is a form of inflammatory arthritis and can occur in any part of the body. It often starts with pain and swelling in the big toe or lower limbs. Alcohol and certain foods can  often make it worse .

My lovely FIL is a tough old thing, never complains when he is ill, or has had surgery etc, but even he has said that the one time he had gout when he was in his 50's was the most painful thing he had ever experienced!

I've been taking allopurinol daily for about 20 years and it seems to be free of side effects. I'm very grateful to it.
