A friend of mine is having a major computer problem. Despite antivirus and 'homepage protection' from Norton, somehow when his homepage comes up he is now getting 'explicit material'. Whenever he changes it, it reverts back to this. He managed to fix the problem last night but on restarting his computer today it has occurred again. Any ideas before he explodes or throws the computer out of the window!?

Do a search for a free utility called HijackThis - download it and run it with the option to create a logfile.

Then paste the output from the logfile to www.hijackthis.de

It will analyse the output for you and suggest suspect items.

If you are unsure of whether to delete something be careful - post back here.
These are Internet Explorer exploits you will have solved your problem by switching to a better more secure browser

Get rid of Norton it's an awful anti virus program. Use AVG or AntiVir
