Question: can i keep both drives in master mode because hard drive is connected by sata? I have only one hard drive(SEAGAT ST3160827AS) and only one optical drive(NEC ND-2510A)chipset Intel 865GBF going into a new build (first build) system.

If they are on seperate channels, keep them both on master. If there on the same, then the Hdrive should be master and the optical on slave.
I agree with Potatoman, but would like to stress that seperate channels (cables) is the way to go. If you add another cd/dvd, add it as a slave to the cable that already has an optical drive.
Hang on a sec! That's a SATA drive, and SATA drives don't even support master/slave configuration! Do you have a SATA AND an IDE drive?
