TV's
Can anyone remember when they first got a tv? Was it black and white or colour? What would you do if tv nowadays was like years ago and only had 3 channels that went off at 11pm? Would it affect you much at all?
I remember my parents buying our first colour tv when I was about 9 and I seriously thought black and white films would be colour on it lol

then we got ours and like you, couldn't understand why the old films were still black & white, lol, used to love watching the old TOTP on bbc, nowadays i couldn't be without sky, at least if you get up early or can't get to sleep there's always something to watch on sky, would it affect me if it went off at 11pm?
sure would, imagine sitting there all night with no tele, drive me bonkers :-)

I can remember when we got our first colour TV (1972). Dad got it ready for the olympics that year. Anyway, the night it came, Dad was in (unusual for him, as he was a local councillor [as was Mum] and was at meetings most nights), Mum was out, my brother, sister and I were out, so he could watch what he wanted. Only decent thing on...a black and white film!!
lol matt, I remember having a little black and white portable as our main tv, the loop aeriel was forever breaking and the picture was always crap whether the aerial was okay or not lol Im laughing here cos I forgot those were the days of not having a remote too lol
hahaha allotment, I too remember a neighbour getting a colour tv and he invited most of the street to come take a look lol also all the fellas in the street went to his house at the weekend to watch football. I dont watch much tv at all but I think I would be gutted if we didnt have sky :(

1 channel?? lol grover that seems crazy compared to now, or is it the other way round and its crazy now compared to then lol
I agree about the repeats but sometimes its a good thing, I go to bed pretty early so a few of the programmes I like that are on later at night are usually shown again but earlier on a different channel :)

Like Grover, I recall our 1st tv just having the one channel BBC. We had our's in the late 50's and when ITV started up we thought it was wonderful! There used to be what they called "The Interlude" after the kid's programmes, between 5+6pm. And the national anthem was played when the tele closed down at night, just before "the Epilogue" lol.
I think it's sad that people want so much crap now! If you really ask yourself "Do I have to / need to watch this programme" you might find yourself watching less telly. Although there was only 3 channels for most of my youth, the quality was far superior!! All that happens now is copycat programming and cheap reality tv!! Oh well..........
yes but davetuc ,its all about choices.there are many channels that I have never watched but then they werent meant for me.The fact that they exist says that they have a market.
Allotment10,I have a similar story as I remember our neighbours came over to watch the 1978 world cup at our house cos we had colour !!!
