Has anyone been here? Am looking to go at the end of August/beginning of September...Could someone tell me what its like please? Have had look on Net but would like someones personal opinion!

it'll still be pretty hot. The beaches are great, and the resort hotels good quality generally (though you should probably check out individual reviews on http://www.tripadvisor.com or some similar site). You can see Roman remains including a wonderful amphitheatre at El Djem or take day trips into the desert and go on camel rides etc. I think you're also allowed in to look at mosques, unlike Morocco. If you're near Tunis the bazaar is interesting but I'm told you can get pestered a lot. It's a Muslim country so dress modestly off the beach - no burqa neeed but maybe don't show shoulders and knees (either sex).

Hi Nannon, i have been to Tunisia once & would not recommend it, i know a few other people who feel the same. I did have a good holiday because of the people i was with, but i was glad it was only 1 week! I think i went to a place called port el kantoui? not sure about spelling!
Maybe it was because there was nothing at all to do there & the beach wasn't nice, i'm sure there must be nicer places there! But sooo many nicer places to go & i wouldn't recommend it to be honest. I was also hassled LOTS by the men out there, it wasn't nice at all. I wouldn't advise it as a place for you & your bf to go.

I went in September with a female friend to Hammamet. The weather was great, the beaches fantastic but the hassle was a nightmare. We were pestered non stop everytime we left the hotel and the male staff in the hotel weren't much better. We went on a couple of excursions (one to a village, one to Carthage) and ended up hiding on the bus.We're a couple of overweight middle aged women so gawd help anyone young and pretty! I certainly wouldn't allow either of my daughters to go there. We made friends with a family whose teenage son had been mugged of his trainers.
I personally wouldn't recommend the country and I won't be going back.

Before you book a hotel anywhere check out www.holidays-uncovered.co.uk (I think thats the address) - people can post reviews on resorts and hotels. I've found it very useful in the past and its nice to get lots of opinions

Tunisia is a yes or a no depending on you. We went to Hammamet last July/August for a family holiday and loved it. BUT we had also been to Egypt that January and so the hasseling in Hammamet seemed like polite banter compared to the way they carried on in Luxor.

I personally would recommend Tunisia provided you are at least slightly thick skinned. It is beautiful and the perfect combination of a cultural/historical/educational trip and a beach holiday.

We stayed at the Nasrine and found the staff and indeed all of the taxi drivers and restaurant staff we delt with to be pleasent, polite, very fond of children and friendly. The market stall workers were pushy but again no where near what is normal in traditional markets of this sort. We got fantastic deals with very little effort - walking away after they give you the first price usually does it.

Do consider what you're comfortable with. If you want an African/Arabic holiday then this is your best bet as the rest of your options will be far more extreme.

We had our first holiday abroad in 1986 to Tunisia and we loved it. We have been back 8 times since then. We have stayed in Port El Kantoui, Hammamet and Skanes. We have found the people to be very friendly especially the staff in the hotels. If you are approached by someone selling things just be polite and move on. It will be pretty hot I would think, just be careful in the sun as you can be fooled by the wind that makes it seem cooler. Do some of the trips - to El Djem and Carthage perhaps. I hope you enjoy your holiday.
