I just had a review on my curent account with my bank and when I told them that my partners wages were being paid into my account she told me that it was ilegal to do this as it gives a false credit rating. I have never heard of this before and cant find anything related on the internet, can anyone help please?

thanks carly

I think she is pulling your plonker. Unless you have a good reason for staying with them (overdraft etc.) tell them to get knotted!
No it is most definately not illegal. It would give you a false credit rating as it would look like you earned more than you really did.

However, if your partner was paid in cash, there would be nothing to stop you paying the cash straight into your account which would also have the same effect and that wouldn't be illegal, would it!
i hope not i've had my fiance's wages go into my account for 3 years now hehe
It's a sales tactic to get your partner to open another account with them. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with having anyone's salary paid into your account.

Tell them to get stuffed and go somewhere that understands bank accounts and that doesn't try to scare you into further business with them.

It sounds like a NatWest tactic to me.
I've never heard such nonsense. You can have money from any source paid into your bank account as long as it's from a legitmate source and not money laundering. I don't know which bank this was, but I would go back and make a complaint that they are giving you misleading information. If your partner is happy with this arrangement, which means that he can't actually access his own money if ever he needs it, then that is fine; otherwise you always have the option of converting it to a joint account.
The bank may be being a bit over-cautious. They are obliged by law to verify the source of funds to prevent money laundering (eg is it for tax avoidance?). If it is legal and above board then there is no reason why you should not do it.
I dont know what bank yours was but Barclays tried the same thing with me. Tell them to go stuff themselves or, better still, do what I did and demand to see the Manager - S/He will have set the little scroat who dealt with you targets for opening accounts, selling insurance, loans, etc etc - They dont care what they do to sell them and will lie if they believe they can get away with it.

They will back down, then close your account and stuff them. I know its not nice but it makes you feel Soooooooo Good !
