Hi, I've been following a heffalumps progress on a zoo web cam since its birth , every so often they seem to feed them sticks which they just seem to eat the bark off of quite amusing to watch!!

Would this be bamboo? It doesn't look like it, it just looks like sticks!! Is it just something to keep them entertained!?

Hi Lisa, didnt mean to get you so excited! Lol !! Its down at Howletts near Canterbury, its not a baby heffalump anymore and theres not a specific camera for it, it was bl00dy big when it was born! Heres the link

Youll have to select Elephants from the drop down menu and you have control of the camera, about lunchtime they let them out into a paddock behind the camera so you have to spin it about 120 degrees and you can zoom in and whatnot.
Theres two little ones who are at the playing stage and are hilarious and the real bubba whos always with its mum. Very intriguing to watch the interaction!
The sticks they eat are in the paddock and they seem to eat them like a corn on the cob with a lathe like action then fling them over their shoulder like a discarded chicken bone!
Enjoy - and dont hog the camera!! ;-)
unlikely to be bamboo as this is not a natural food for them especially if African. More likely tree branches that they can eat the bark from.

Give the Zoo a call, I am sure they will tell you.
i just found this thanks jon
