On returning, you pack your clothes. half of which you didn't wear and your new purchases. Then you discover you cannot shut the case. Your only option is to wear 2 vests, 3 shirts, a jumper and that fleece jacket you took, on the plane back.
Your case should now shut.

Check with the airline or tour operator for the exact allowance.
With most it is 20kg per person and that is both ways.I,m afraid the airlines dont up the allowance coming back to take account of your holiday purchases.
Also be aware that if you exceed the 20kg allowance or whatever you are actually allowed then more and more carriers are charging extra for the excess. This is sometimes 5 to 7 for each kilo over the allowance

You are not usually allowed any extra weight on the way back so should really make allowances for that when you pack initially. However, remember that things like shampoo, sun tan lotion, toothpaste etc are quite heavy and if you haven't used them up before coming home, you can always throw them away - thaty will free some weight for the goodies you want to bring back!
Saying all that, I think it depends who you fly with. We came back from Menorca in June and my friend was 6kgs over the weight allowance and nobody batted an eyelid or charged her a penny.

the allowance was 20 kilos per person but have been told that with some airlines if you booked after early december last year it is only 15 kilos you get the allowance printed on your tickets some places abroad are very strict with weight when you travel back and some just simply dont bother you are best taking the bare essentials then you have room for more coming back most stuff is cheap in spain dont take beach towels buy a cheapie then chuck it
Hmmm, i have just been to Greece with a friend. It was only 15kg allowance going, but i had the option of getting more(if i payed extra) if i wanted to.
They weighed it going out and it was 16 (they didnt say anything)
They weighed it coming back and it was 19 (again they didnt say anything).
Also, i think it goes off your total people going, so if there are 3 of you going , then your allowed 45kg ...
