My son is 4yrs old and has just started 'proper' school.

He goes to a local Catholic school - neither my husband or I are Catholic and not at all religious (it is a really good school and we are basically Christian).

Since my son was in nusery last year and continuing throughout the school the children do 3 prayers a day (morning, lunch & hometime) which I have absolutely no objections to whatsoever, the school does not 'force' anyone to be Catholic but some children will get Confirmed in year 4 - I don't want my son to be excluded from things (he has never even been christened!) but I have always said that he can make his own decisions about religion when he is old enough to understand.

Should I get him Baptised so that he can be Confirmed when the time comes or should I wait?

wait till nearer conformation time and ask him what he wants to do, he will probably want to do the same as his friends and be confirmed and you can get him baptised then ,if he chooses to follow the religion later in life is his choice to make as and when he needs to

The Catholic children who will be confirmed will be around 13 when they are confirmed by the Bishop. They usually take the sacrament of their First Holy Communion at around age 7 . Hope that helps . :-)

maybe you should have a word with the head of school then her or she will be able to get you intouch with the parish priest i am sure there will be no pressure what so ever for your son to convert to Catholicism it will of course be his own decision

Roman Catholicism is best avoided.
It is a cult that uses scripture AND tradition as its authority.
If you are Christian, then your boy should be educated religiously where only scripture is the ulimate authority.

If you want him to make his own decisons later on, then no..you shouldn't have your son baptised.

I don't think the idea of him being left out is a good enough reason for baptism and confirmation ~ it has to come from either your faith or his.

I doubt that he will be or feel left out anyway as there are a large percentage of non catholics attending a catholic school .

If you honestly want him to make his own mind up don't even consider baptism - he is neither catholic nor christian until he is old enough to make his own reasoned decision
