A few years ago a man who worked for the British Legion showed me an expenses list for the top brass who run the British Legion and it consisted of hundreds of thousands of pounds spent on Five Star Hotels,Chauffer driven cars, Trips abroad,Restuarant bills,Salaries that would make your eyes water
I`m all for remembering the heroes that fought and gave their lives for us but I will not line the pockets of the greedy bastads who run the British Legion
The money they scoop from the poppy appeal would make a GMTV phone in look like pocket money

Lonnie I answered this on your other thread. Many congratulations on your award.
Elvis Sadly, this sort of thing happens in all charities, and in my opinion it should be investigated and stopped. People don't fill collecting boxes to fund the outrageous expenses of the elite. However, the Royal British Legion does extraordinary work, so some of the money goes to the right people and it's therefore worth putting a pound or two in.

Hi Lonnie mucker
Got mine aleready ( but I bet youy knew that eh)?
I would ask all ABers to give what they can, and observe the two minutes silence on 11/11/07.
Two minutes of our time is nothing compared to what our forefathers suffered for us and what our service personel are currently suffering, so please keep them in your thoughts.
P.S You've reminded me that I need to buy some Duraglit and get the 4GS medals polished Lonnie ;-))

I just paid five whole pounds for mine. I don't think I received enough commendation from the people around me in Tesco even though I stretched the note out several times, and then put it in really slowly, tutting quite loudly as if the little slot wasn't big enough to fit my donation in. I don't know what the world is coming to ;-)
Hi everyone, and thanks for a really marvellous response,
Elvis, I'm sorry for your experience, but as naomi says, think of all the good that the Legion does, as I said, 'only a few pence will suffice'.
Ray, its really good to see you back on here, we'll have to get everyone together and have a cyber party,
Boo, Yes, I know, I did answer that.
John, I knew that, (wonder how), don't let your chin meet your knees with the weight of them will you.
To everyone else, your all saints, (I say that in the loosest term) lol, and thanks again for you responses.
That award, its being presented on the 19th, but thats all I know.

John's comment reminded me-I can't STAND when people don't shut the hell up for 2 minutes out of their damn privileged lives to observe the silence. No matter where I am I always stop, and last year I was in Morrison's. And I cried, and I didn't care who saw me.
I am 21 and still have the utmost respect for those who gave their lives so we could have what we do. I am not saying it's perfect, but we are so damn fortunate.
I used to work in a cafe while I was at college, and you could guarantee that whenever we dimmed the lights for a 2-min silence, at least one table (usually older people, surprisingly) would exclaim loudly, "oooh, this is a funny time of day to shut." I mean, it happens every November, put it in your diary if you must...
PS Hello all :) xx

I agree leelapops. Last year I was in Asda and just walking past the y-fronts (!!) when the 2 minute silence began but a group of young girls with pushchairs just carried on talking and laughing loudly whilst letting their kids run around screaming. I was utterly disgusted and was angry that weren't thrown out. Thank god they are the minority.
