hi i've downloaded a couple movies and they're in a strange format- a folder with lots of blank files that end in .r01 .r02 etc. what application can i use so i can watch it on my mac? thanks

Those numbered files are part of winrar - an archiving prog similar to Winzip. There should be a file with the extension .rar - normally you would double-click this file and you would then be able to extract the movie from the archive.

I don't know if there is a version of Winrar is available for the Mac, but an alternative called UnRarX is available here:
http://www.unrarx.com/

It's likely that the actual movie file itself may be encoded with xvid or similar. You can get a Mac xvid codec here to use with your media player:
http://www.xvidmovies.com/codec/

with the above advice, all you would then do is right click on any of the folders and say 'extract here' it will then 'unrar' it and you will have a watchable movie format.
