Tyre Pressures

I have a Renault Kangoo 1.9 Van. It states that the tyre pressure should be 49 psi in the rear tyres and low forties in the front. I do not carry any weight and it is only for personal use. These pressures seem extremely high, Anyone with any ideas. Thanks in advance
