Always make a point of checking pockets because of the kids habits of filling them lol
Yeah the tables are bio but the top with the most holes is newish so only been washed a handful of times , just my luck eh .
the machine is at a guess about 5-6 years old , has had a few repairs in this time but never this problem before .

I think it that some of the drainage holes in the drum have sharp edges. The fact that it was not a full load is precisely the reason that the centrifugal force has forced the clothes onto the sharp edges. Does that sound daft?. I am not scientifically minded enough to be able to explain my theory any better than that. Maybe someone in the science section could come up with a reason. I am sure it is something like that that has caused the holes.
No that isnt a daft idea at all, sharp edges can be left after the manufacturing process of the drum. As far as i know Miele machines are the only machines that have their drums tested for smoothness by using a silk stocking.
I would see if there is any sharp edges, but be careful doing so.
Another idea, is are you using a too powerful action for the clothes you're washing?

My old washing machine used to do this randomly, there must something sharp in the machine somewhere - it wasn't just holes but would sometimes almost shred parts of garments. It didn't happen everytime but usually sod's law would guarantee it only happen to something I loved or was new, I noticed that it never happened to heavy items like jeans but usually items that had stretch in them (knickers, boxers, women's skinny t-shirts, woollen jumpers, etc). Hope this helps :-)
