Hi. Me, my husband and our 11 year old son are going to New York for 4 nights in July. Can anyone recommend any decent, reasonably priced accommodation? I've been with a friend a couple of times before but gone on a inclusive flight-and-hotel basis so we got very good hotels at an excellent price as a deal. We're doing it ourselves this time though, and stopping over on the way to Florida, so we're looking for somewhere reasonably priced but still fairly central. Everywhere seems so expensive! Anyone got any recommendations? Thanks! x

However, while it's cheaper than many New York hotels, it's still quite expensive for those on a tight budget. Trip Advisor lists 337 New York hotels, listed in order of popularity, complete with reviews and an indication of typical prices. The full list is here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g60763-New_Y ork_City_New_York-Hotels.html
However, you can use the filter options (at the top of that page) to filter by price, district, etc.
Stayed at the Woolcot a couple of years ago, might suit you as they do triple rooms. Hotel was fine, not luxurious, just round the corner from the Empire State, and remember, you will be out and about for most of the time.
If the location is not a bother then consider staying outside of Manattan and travelling in each day
We stayed 2 weeks ago at a hotel in Queens and bought a 7 day travel pass,15 mins into the city and saved on the hotel cost
Hi. Thanks for all your suggestions. We're booked into the Novotel on Times Square which we somehow managed to get for just over 300 for 4 nights!!! Looking on all the websites I think they priced it wrongly as I can't find it for anything even close to that anywhere else. Has anyone stayed there? Is it ok? Thanks! x
Thanks for that nabob :o) We've paid in full on credit card and had confirmation through so I'm hoping if they have undercharged us and they do realise they'll still be obliged to stick to the price. Fingers crossed. Any useful info on the hotel or local eateries from when you stayed there? Thanks. x
