I think Viagra should kick in after about half an hour or so. However, the stimulus has to be there for the arousal to occur, meaning you have to be turned on in the first place. If you are not, then it's unlikely to work.

It takes 30 mins to an hour to kick in, but taking it won't give you an erection, it will just help you maintain it once it's there. If you are having trouble getting an erection, even in an erotic situation, some stimulation from your partner may well help. But don't forget that a fair bit of sex is in the head, and if the situation and stimulation don't help, Viagra certainly won't do anything !
