I have tried to buy some train tickets online but I would have to collect them from a ticket machine. My local station doesn't have one of these, and as as it's Sunday what do I do?
Can you buy a ticket when already on the train?

You can buy a ticket on the train if:

the booking office is closed (or doesn't exist)
and
there is no working ticket machine
and
(in some areas) there is no working permit to travel machine

There can still be ticket machines at a station even if these cannot be used to pick up internet tickets - there are quite a few different designs.

thanks for that.
There was indeed a ticket machine at the station - you're right!
I was going to buy online and the tickets were 60. But when I got them today, they were only 24 -including car park!)
I'm so glad I didn't get them in advance, I'd have been livid!
