Shallots are long in shape & mild in taste, compared to spring onions which are small, bulb like in shape & stronger tasting.

Silly me, I must be tired, I read shallott & immediately thought of a leek! I'll start again. A shallot is like a small onion & a spring onion is like a small leek.
