Did you know that if you have towear a uniform for work you can claim up to 90 a year as a tax rebate for (this is the imporatant bit) washing your uniform? The scheme is called "Flat Rate Job Expenses" and can be backdated 6 years.
Good luck.

You have to inform your employer (so they can put it on your tax code) and you have to write to the local tax office with your details asking for it to be backdated.
Don't spend it all at once.

I'm taxed at source also (P.A.Y.E) you have to apply for it. If your employer washes your uniform for you(some engineeering firms do your overalls) then you're not eligible either way it costs nothing to ask.
It took me 10 minutes on the phone to them to find out my eligibility.
Hi everton you can also claim tool alowance and any training you have also had to pay out and mobile phones if you can prove it.
I am in the process of claiming six years back and I am on PAYE and gettng it back dated so keep all your reciepts as proof
You don't end up 90 better off, as I'm sure you realise.

You just don't pay tax on 90 - the 90 is added to your personal tax allowance. If you are a 20% tax payer, that is an extra 18 each year in your pocket.

Ethel making me feel better all the years i wore crap uniform which i washed, for 18 smackers a year spend mor in washing powder

I've seen the letter sent to a colleague about the matter and it stated that "the fee was dependant on the amount negotiated by your union, in this instance the amount is 60" the maximum you can claim is 90.
are you eligable if you are in the armed forces
Why not!cant claim now for bleep sake long ago,but what makes them different from others we still had to wash our shirts and blouses and payed to get our uniform and ties dry cleaned!!!
And to add think we pay tax
after what ethel has said - is it worth applying do you think?
