What are these sockets used for and how many are required i.e. is 1 enough. I only really want the TV for its basic use

So a Sky+ HD box uses HDMI, and a DVD recorder could use HDMI.
A computer games machine can also use HDMI.
While you may only want one right now you dont know what you needs may be in the next 4 or 5 years (the life of the TV).
I would get 2 HDMI sockets if you can, just to be on the safe side.
