can't find a sister.
9 Answers
My friend wants to emigrate to Australia to join her brother but on appying for a visa she finds she has a sister in this country. She hasn't been able to find her and is therefore not allowed to go to oz. Just wondered if anyone knows if the law is the same for relatives as it is for husbands eg. Your husband will be declaired dead after seven years missing???

I'm gathering the UK, just want to clarify, as if that's the case then I'm assuming that your friend has stated she wants to move to be with her only living relative i.e. her brother and that this has chucked a spanner in the works.
When was the sister born? Was she given up for adoption? I'm gathering your friend never knew her? How old is your friend and is there any other family in the UK?

Thanks NicecupofTea
you've hit the nail on the head.My friend is in her late 40's and she thinks her full sister will be about 64. She never knew her but she doesn't think she was adopted. It came light about the sister when she applied for her parent's death cert. The sister registered the deaths until then she didn't know anything about her but can't find her. As far as she knew her brother inOz was her only relation. She is a white not black. thanks for input.

Thanks In A Pickle for your interest. The problem is she applied for the visa stateing she had no family here and the brother in Oz was her only family but this has been proved wrong. I'm afraid the Oz aurthoritties will not allow you to emigrate if you have any relatives alive in this country and you are going on the last surviving relative visa.
There are lots of different visas to go to Oz and none of the catagories applied to her. Eg. children already out there, work skills or if retired you have plenty of cash to put into the country. Like everything in this life nothing is as straight forward as it may seem. Thanks anyway.

Looks like there might be some room for manouvre in the fact you have never known her and and no idea of her whereabouts.
