Hi all.....do I have to turn off the power at the wall socket after my computer has switched off in the usual way? Or is it actually still using power if I don't unplug it?

In other words if I turn off the Monitor and turn off the PC from the Start /Turn of computer buttons in Windows. Is that enough to completely shut it down? I do have a surge protection whatsit...

This is just a little point that we have been discussing amongst friends........no bets incurred ;-)

Thanks for any opinions you can offer.....commoner.

Some computers have an additional switch at the back, next to the power socket; if you switch off there, your computer is off. If you simply close it down, or turn off with the front panel button, the computer is in standby mode (rather like turning off your TV using the remote). Some lower end models don't have a switch at the back- in which case the only way to ensure that they are using no power, is to unplug them.
