Split in my finger

hi all. Ive had a split in the skin on my finger at the corner of my nail for months and it wont go, whats causing it and how do i get rid of it!!

I get this problem a lot for some reason - not always the same finger and it is extremely painful and annoying! If you put a plaster over it, reasonably tightly, for a few days it will close up for a while - what causes it I have no idea but it is very annoying.

Sorry, just remembered - if all else fails use superglue! Be very careful that you don't stick your fingers together but seriously this really, really does work. It's no different to the glues they use in some hospitals nowadays.

i get them .. only if i use cheap washing up liquid.

what i normally do is to mositurise it. neurogena hand cream are really good. fill the gap up with the cream and wrap it with a plaster during the night, by morning it should improve! :) x

Anything that degreases your hands can cause it.

Jif cleaner is pretty efficient at causing it, and white spirit is dreadful.

Use rubber gloves.

Use a dab of Tea Tree Oil before you go to bed, and then put some old gloves on as Tea Tree Oil has a strong smell and is a bit greasy. Good for Athletes Foot too by the way ...

i suffer from this too especially in the winter when my hands get cold and i just apply germoline and put on a plaster for a few days, heals up the split in no time.
