Back into sleep routine
A common problem - I need help. My son has been suffering from a heavy cold for just over 2 weeks now. Its getting to the end but as some of you may have done yourself, I have been having in bed with me "on and off" as he has not been able to settle well and is constantly coughing/choking unless sleeping more upright.
He will go to bed as usual at night but can guarantee he will wake between 12-1am crying ... standing up in his coat ... and working himself up. I know my silliness of taking him into bed with me in the past is now playing its toll but any quick fix remedies to get his routine back to normal - he used to sleep straight through before this cold attacked!
I am currently keeping him in his coat when he wakes and lying next to him (on the floor) with my hand placed on him - this will sometimes settle him but only for a few hours ... then its a repeat performance .... Ive given in twice but took him downstairs instead of to my bed
ANY IDEAS ... silly me!!

hello, i think at 11 months he will understand some things, very intelligent are babies!
i think you have the right idea with sleeping by his cot to keep him settled, as uncomfortable as it is!! that way he is in his room in his bed rather then yours, its just the comfort from mummy he wants - bless!!
i doubt there is any quick solution, we have all done this!!! plus i know people say to just leave him to cry and he will get over it! but thats just so cruel, i couldnt bear the thought of my baby crying in a cot and no one coming!! its horrible!!!
i would just stick to that for now, make yourself a bed by his and then hopefully ( fingers crossed) he will stop waking up and crying for you, then you can slip back into your own bed, plus while he is ill i would stay by him, i used to watch my daughter all night when she was ill!! especially with \ cough, buts that me, a bloody worrier!!!!!
good luck, xx

Meet your friend then - Im a worrier too! To be honest whilst he is so ill Ive brought him into my bed .... I know but he is awake on the hour every hour crawling around on his hands and feet .... fingers crossed this second lot of antibiotics and pain killers will kick in shortly!
He is good otherwise but this way we can take turns of peace watching him whilst the other grabs some zzzzz's before work.
Thanks again to everyone ...
