Does get you thinking, doesn't it: do all other important events not occur on a day like today? Or how else do news broadcasters justify filling up 90 percent of the news with one item?

I kind of agree - though i think with an event like the tsunami etc, then fair enough, dedicate a lot of time to it. But the way I see the Pope's death is, he was an old man who had been ill for a long time. Obviously it should still be the main story but they had already repeated the same stories over and over whenever he was ill over the last year or so. I just turn off now because they aren't telling you anything new, it's the same old archive footage and people in St. Peters and Krakow saying the same things over and over. ... maybe I'd feel different if I was a catholic.

On the other hand, a lot of news is not that interesting and some of the items they have on are so obviously time-fillers. They'll still report any genuinely interesting or important stories today, just taking a lot of the waffle out.

Remember that most people of THIS planet have a religion. Whether you are a Roman Catholic, or else, or Agnostic, there has always been the the OFF button.

Important events seldom happen over weekends - what was yesterday's second biggest story, two footballers brawling? Bet the news broadcasters were delighted to have a big story (and there are more than a billion Catholics) to fill up their schedules

Im not Catholic but I liked and respected the Pope. Im sure he's glad to now be pain free. I lost my Mother to cancer 12 years ago and what she suffered was horrible.She passed away at the age of 74 and at "The End"  she actually smiled. Relief that it was all over for her? I think so.The Pope lived to a ripe old age and I hope he is now at peace too.

Must admit, I don't get it. "prayers are being held for the Pope" why? surely if there's anyone guarenteed a decent seat, it must be him. Sinners everywhere are losing out to misdirected pity/love/reverence/whatever. Shouldn't there be joy, celebration and laughter, that he's off to meet his maker. After all, if he's off to a better place, what the hell's all the greetin' for?
