I only have the usual buildings and contents insurance.

I have heard of anyone suffering from burst pipes in over 40 years - it was common when I was younger and everyone had outside toilets, but plumbing is better these days and pipes are mostly in well heated houses.

But then I can afford to pay if something does go wrong.
Hi Paul,

We have the usual buildings and contents and it covers inside plus the usual rebuild of house etc. It does not cover outside drains/pipes on the property.

So we also took outside water drainage insurance and thank god we did!!!!!

The outside drain collapsed (we have a very old house) and the buildings/contents didn't cover it and it was on our land. The cost was more than we would have wanted to pay (quite a few thousand) and since we are insured (15 pm) with Southern we used it.

Bit like playing the dice really. A gamble worth taking???

If you live in a newish house and your drains and sewage are in good repair, there really is no need for it.

My house was built in the 1960s and I have an inspection cover on my drive. Everything it perfectly as it should be.
Yes I agree. Age of house will be a point. Ours is 1800's and built on farm land. We needed to take out the insurance. :)
i have insurance as well and mine was cheap, first year and all that, i personally think its a good idea, you cant see whats going on underground and regardless off whether i could afford it or not whats the point in paying out hundreds if something does go wrong when a few quid will cover it.
Well I've been a householder for over 50 years, so I've probably saved a few thousand pounds not having this insurance.
good for you but if you hadnt and something had gone wrong, youd have wasted thousands of pounds, i assume you have household insurance so whats the difference, we all want to save money if we can
