For the purposes of this question, please assume 'today' is a Tuesday, as it is when I am posting it.
If my girlfriend were to say 'Are you free next Friday?' she would mean the Friday in next week. I on the other hand would assume this to mean the next Friday to occur - i.e. in 3 days time.
This is regularly causing confusion between us. How would other people interpret such an expression?
This is open to mis-understanding, next Friday could easily be taken as the next Friday after the statement has been made. See you Friday week, would be clearer. I cant believe I am answering this. I must get a life.
Well most people would look at this and think "next Friday" well that surely means the nest friday to come. but most people would say "what are you doing this friday" if they m,eant the friday in 3 days time. So i am with your girlfriend in this one. Next friday, is not 3 days time. (in my eyes anyway)
Im also with your g/f on this one. But lets face it, it doesnt matter. Whatever opinion we mere men hold will be instantly countermanded by the nearest representative of the uterine mafia, so we may as well bite our tongues and go and play snooker for a bit of peace.
