My hubby had trouble with his prostate, had 2 scans and was given tablets. That was 5 weeks ago this week, He had a letter fron the hospital today saying they had found traces of blood in his urine. He was given the all clear at the hospital and examined thoroughly besides the scans so Im wondering what can be causing the bleeding. He's not actually weeing blood. Thanks
Don't worry China .
If he has benign prostate enlargement it's quite normal to find traces of blood in the urine . Mine had to have an op in the end ! Left it too late for medication . Nothing untoward but still scary at the time .Sounds as if your husband was on the ball with his piddling problems :)
Keep an eye on him :)
Sorry I had to get tea going. Thanks so much guys, I was worried about this. I can't understand why they left it so long before writing about the blood. Oh they also want him to have the fibre optic camera down his willy which he's not too happy about. They did'nt send him a firm appt they ust said for him to expect one.
It's actually a Cystoscopy. The area is numbed with a local and they put a small tube through the urethral opening at the tip of the penis
It is nothing to be scared of China .
It just shows the doctor the degree to which the gland is causing obstruction .Please reassure your husband . Mr S. and my brother have both had this done and it was quite painless .
sqad and shaney, He said he wants to leave well enough alone but Im trying to get him to go as Im worried. Oh he freely admits he's a coward sqad..lol I had to nag him to see the gp when he could'nt wee properly shaney. He's so stubborn..Agghhhh.
Thing is China I had all this with Mr S until I had to rush him to hospital with suspected kidney failure after not being able to pee for for over 12 hours . I had nagged and nagged at him to see the doctor . I had heard him at night in the bathroom . A dribble here a dribble there .Everytime I said anything it was"stop nagging for goodness sake ."
Of course once he was in hospital and they gave him a catheter and ascertained the problem all was well .We were in the proceeds of moving house at the time and he could see how upset I was that he hadn't done I said .
He had the op and no problems since .
Men and doctors eh ?
Nag him for his own good .
And just a short PS ..they are cowards at times .God knows what they would do if they had to have a baby .
We had the occult test recently for bowel cancer .Sent mine in ,all clear ...Mr.S has shoved his in a drawer ,no doubt never to be seen again .
He keeps saying " Oh yes ,I must sort that out "..Yeah right ....
It's like talking to a brick wall at times .
Well, chinadog, I've never had a camera up there, but I have had to have a catheter a couple of times.
Both times they used pumped a syringe full of gel up the urether. The gel acts as a lubricant and an anaesthetic, so you don't actually feel anything. So tell Mr C not to be such a wuss and to get his rear in gear and have it done.
Well Im glad it all turned out okay for Mr S shaney. Why do men have to be pushed into helping theirselves? Funny thing I mentioned the bowel screening test to Mr C the other day. " Oh I won't be doing that" says he. What tickles me is, if I get a health problem he tells me to go to the docs a s a p! During labour on one of mine he pinched my gas and air b/cos he had a headache! Men:-))
Well .. I hope he takes heed and does as he is told .I can only wish you all the best in your endeavours to get him sorted out .
I sometimes think they don't realise how much of a worry this sort of thing is to us .And also they hate to admit there could be something wrong .It must be a man thing :)
Take care china.
Oh yes, if you want a genuine scare story to use on him ...
An elderly colleague of mine has had prostate trouble for a few years, and has also had a couple of ops to reduce the size of it. However, his last bit of excitement involved his wife rushing him to A&E because he had stopped peeing and left it far too long to go himself. His bladder was so badly stretched by the time his wife got him there that it is now like a limp balloon and doesn't have any "muscle tone". The only way he can ditch the urine now is via a catheter and bag.
Of course it is Mr C's bladder and he is big enough to make his own decision, but personally I'd rather go for the check than risk having to wander round with a catheter and bag in place.
I peed blood after having the worst pain I have ever felt near kidneys. Went to hospital. Gave me drugs like morphine and painkillers. The pain went, and I haven't felt anything wrong since.
Strange thing is - if was kindey stones wouldn't I have felt them passing? Could this also be prostate?
