a comfort blanket or a dog-eared teddy you couldn't live without when you were a child? My small grandson has a "taggy" in the form of a really old hat (It's rotten) he has to have it when he goes to bed for the tag inside, won't let us wash it, I've done it before and he was most upset, he has that and a baby pillow, also "minging", he's only 4 now, does anyone still do the comfort thing????

I hated my mum to wash it as the dirtier it became, the nicer it smelled to me! I called it my 'piddy'. My son had something similar when he was little. And we also both sucked our thumbs until a very late age (in our teens - though it was only in private, never in public).
My mate Lil had an old square of crocheted blanket which she called her 'goy goy'.

Ah Joy, that is so sweet.
(I bet any men reading this are pretending to stick their fingers down their throat & gag - it's a woman thing!)
My son is 26 this year, and he would be mortified if he knew, but up until recently I have peeped my head round a door to find him with his thumb hovering very near to his mouth.....I bet he still sucks it in bed if he's on his own).

I had a handmade sheepskin teddy called Teddy which my daughter played with too but I still have it. She had a handmade rag doll called Susie and she bawled her eyes out when she was given to her. I think the face frightened her but from then on Susie went everywhere with her getting dirtier and dirtier as the years went by so my mother asked her friend to make another one and we took the old Susie away and she remained in one of my mother's cupboards for many years and the new Susie was not quite the same. It was a relief really as my daughter's conversations with the original Susie had become quite annoying. Now she has six year old twin boys and only one of them is still attached to "Monkey".
Thumb sucking, Salla!. My daughter sucked her thumb that it became so calloused that I put a plaster on it and it proved a miraculous cure except the then started biting her toenails! One of her twins found his thumb very quickly while the other wouldn't go to sleep without his passie (dummy). Fortunately when they moved into big boys'. beds, big boys could not have passies and so that went but Jake pursued with his thumb and calling him a baby and his brother ratting on him whenever he was caught sucking it almost cured the problem but he still sucks it now and again but not at school I hope.
