finding true friends
3 Answers
Hi
About 18 months ago i had 2 friends, we all used to go out and i thought got on really well, till they decided i was no longer worth knowing and that they would be friends instead. At the time i had moved in to a house that needed total rennovation and all my time and money seemed to be swallowed up by it, and didn't go out or see them as much as i used to, when we did meet up i would say can it be cheap & cheerful as money was tight, turned they had an issue with this and it all came to a head. since then my confidence has been knocked don't tend to get to close to people or let them in as in the end they will always let you down, find it hard to trust people and since have not been out, or made any new friends ,i'm 42 no friends and am fed up with life, does anyone know or where i can get my social life back on track and meet some geniune real friends.

your "friends" were just not worth it if they can't deal with your circumstances.
in reality, you have to get out there to meet new people. they're not going to come to your door. how you do that is another matter. clubs? groups? classes? open yourself up to new opportunities and be brave. there are plenty of good people out there.
go get em :o)

We've all lost friends along the way and I, like you, have got a bit cynical about letting people close. I've lost friends because I split up with my husband (not real friends), I lost friends because I met someone else and it didn't fit in with them (not real friends).
Evening classes are a great start I think and, I suppose, I have a young child so can get myself involved in a lot of stuff with school governors and coffee mornings.
Work is a good outlet - I work from home and for my father so he is the only person I see. I go on a lot of workshops for school with the governors, do classes in silly stuff as well as stuff that will help me with work, etc.
