does anyone know if you delete information by mistake off a memory stick if there is anywhere you can retrieve the information or is it gone for good.

You can use any of the usual programs to undelete files on USB sticks just as you can for any normal disk drive.
You can download a trial version of"UndeleteMyFiles Pro" and use that. It only allows you to run it 10 times and then you have to buy it.
