MM Links Solutions May 2009 [Week 4]

This fourth week found The Serene Stephanie in a generous mood and points flowed like water into a creek! Following yet another interesting preamble based on the theme Enjoyment, we were left with the link words:

FAST Food
WHITE Wine
Friend SHIP
LIMITED Company

With these links, Steff was beginning to talk the language of the Shrubbery Squad.

On a general point, mirandasmum began by predicting two extra-long words and asked permission to correct them. This is always allowed!

I had to laugh at the four guesses of Aquagility being Junk Food, Corked Wine, False Friend and Wrong Company. The spirit of Victor Meldrew lives on! With Newcastle United relegated, I share his sombre mood!

The early birds were quick to cash in on a bonanza! First came recent ex-champion beejay1124 with FAST FOOD and LIMITED COMPANY to score FOUR POINTS and FRIEND SHIP didn�t last much longer when jan1956 only seconds afterwards. With these three links already exposed, the Shrubbery Squad began a �feeding frenzy�. A string of �two-pointers� followed with x-ray, roslyn251254, lysander, Dustybun, gen2, Grenmus & tearinghair all hitting the mark within the required two minutes. Indeed deecee131 & paulineward managed double hits each claiming another FOUR POINTS.

Just when the Sacred Abacus was going into hyperdrive, these outstanding performances were eclipsed by ulysses100 & cliffyg who each spotted two of the existing links together with the final WHITE WINE when the clock still stood at 09.03 ~ so each qualified for SIX POINTS. These two must therefore share the coveted title of HOT SHOTS OF THE WEEK!

Thereafter the scoring continued, but midst the run of single pointers, a memorable double hit was scored by relative newcomer grannydi. Also worthy of mention was joto123 who scored three hits in the closing minutes to pick up Three Points.

I have compiled this table hurriedly and it will need to be checked before ratification! In any event, no fewer than five of the top scorers are ex-champions of MM Links ~ so bear this in mind as you launch your final challenge.

My my my my my ! I don't believe it !! And having missed out on a week as well. I think that this must have been one of my highest (if not the highest) score that I have ever had --- and, congratulations to cliffyg too.
