MM Links Solutions May 2009 [Week 5]

This final week found The Serene Stephanie in a far from generous mood and only nine points were awarded over the entire game! I suspect that she was upset by all her guests leaving, as she wished us all Bon Voyage. Nevertheless, she left us with the link words:
FIRE Guard
WORK Basket
House PARTY
TIME Capsule
Quite a homely set of links, with most of our predictions focusing on Bushfires and Garden Parties!

Another half dozen entrants came and went, until at 09.41am when Jim outshone Jools for once by hosting a HOUSE PARTY and landing the second of TWO POINTS.
It took to the afternoon [when the Canadians usually enter the fray] and Mr Ont-ice (aka Bert) stole the Show with his TIME CAPSULE containing TWO MORE POINTS. The last link fell to the reliable SHAZZA, who was on her (FIRE) GUARD and took the final TWO POINTS>
The only other person to score (One Point) was joto with Work Basket ~ a truly amazing game! Welcome and commiserations to new-comer jobjockey who chose the worst possible game to try their hand at predicting. Never mind! Next week, we all start with a clean slate!

The May League Table after this final week is:
TEN POINTS: ulysses100
NINE POINTS: cliffyg
EIGHT POINTS: Dustybun & paulineward
SIX POINTS: deecee131, joto, lysander, Shazza & tearinghair
FIVE POINTS: Elspeth & roslyn251254
FOUR POINTS: beejay1124, centrino, Magyar & Mrs Ont-ice
The four top scorers [together with <b<lysander] are all ex-champions and (as far as my records are concerned) the other four sharing Six Points have never won an MM Links title. In such cases, the winner is that entrant with the greatest score in any one week. Since deecee131 scored Four Points last week (and the others have scored at most Three Points) I therefore declare deecee131 as the new MM Links Champion and setter of the June Links!

Thanks Steff for a great month - I think it's been the only month we scored any points so I think it also proved that the MM links game definitely has a cultural backbone. How come we managed to guess - both of us - clues from another Commonwealth country and week after week the UK clues go right over our heads? BUT we will keep trying.
Now we are back to the UK with Deecee who has our congratulations - well done, but we know we won't be on his/her wavelength.
Thanks again Crofter with your trusty abacus. I think that we should all pass the hat and buy you a new one as surely that one has had its day.

well your Serene Majesty ~ you lulled us all into a false sense of security and then did an about turn, making most of us look pretty darned average in the final week!! But thank you. That was a fun month for us and you just won't know what on earth to do with your time now will you. Still, you will be free to try and sweep up the Ashes won't you?!!
Thanks crofter and well done deecee131 :0)
Thanks crofter and well done deecee131 :0)
I'm surprised you aren't all baying for my blood and demanding a a recount or even worse, a refund !!!
Congratulations deecee131 on winning the the crown for May - have fun, you'll enjoy it !!!
Thank you crofter for all your help - your guidance is as always, indispensable.
I shall now quietly retire to the Dowager House with my needlework and my dogs - in other words, get cracking on KM !!! skz
Looking at the answers this morning where I saw I had scored 'nil' points, I was totally surprised to read on to find that I had been selected to be the setter of the June Links.
Fortunately, I will be seeing cliffyg today - it was through him that I started entering, more in hope than expectation, several months ago. I can find out what is needed from him
and crofter and for four weeks I hope to give all of you something to think about and enjoy. And yes, today is the 'First of Glorious June'.
