System Restore is not working.

Hi, I've been trying to do a system restore on my PC. Each time I try it I get a message;

"Your Computer cannot be restored to...
xx/xx/05
No changes have been made to your computer.
To choose another restore point..."

It doesn't seem to matter what date I choose, it just doesn't work. Any ideas?

If you are running Windows XP Home and after going thru the System Restore process, a message stating "Cannot restore the computer to an earlier restore point, no changes have been made to your computer" pops up, try the procedure listed below to restore its functionality.

Right click [My Computer] [Properties] then click on System Restore tab.
Put a check in the box for Disable Restore on all drives.
Click apply, then Reboot your PC.
After the system reboots, navigate to the System Restore tab and turn it back on. Click apply.
Navigate to [System Tools] [Restore...] and choose [Create a Restore Point]
Provide a name for the new restore point.
Try and restore the new point just created. It should work properly.

Dont know how much you know about PC's so I hope I am not teaching you to suck eggs, but could the problem be that you have system restore turned off and it needs to be turned on? In the system restore menu it has a tick box. Ensure this is unticked in the first place.

Another thing to ask is that if it is saying no changes have been made to the PC. I would ask how much you use the PC, if hardly ever, maybe there is nothing to restore it too?

Also on the system restore menu there is a slider bar which will say Min at one end and Max at the other, I recommend sliding this to Max. This will determine how many save points it automatically creates.

Thats another thing. You cant go to just any date and restore it to that date, the PC only creates a certain amount of restore points (dependant on your Min-Max slider) unless you create a manual restore point. (Recommended once in a while). The nearest restore date should be in bold text. It is important to create manually restore points anyway when the PC is running well. Otherwise if you dont and 6 months down the line you need to restore it, and the nearest restore date was six months ago, you risk losing 6 months of documentation or files. System restore therefore whilst easy to use and very helpful should only be used as a last resort.

adydb, your solution kind of works, in that system restore is now working. However, I now can't restore back to any date before the other day when I followed your instruction. The Calender just won't go back before that date.
