can anyone explain the appeal of the Muslim faith? I cannot for the life of me understand it, especially for women? Certainly the public image is of restrictions, antiquated customs and views, and hatred of the US and UK. Enlighten me please. And, if nobody can, maybe someone can explain why Islam is tolerated

Why should she/he be amazed, Keyplus? I'd be willing to bet that the majority of women entering Islam do so not because they study the religion and make an informed choice, but because they marry Muslim men.
Gromit

/// am never nothing but polite to you. I may vigorously disagree with almost everything you post, but that is different than being insulting.///

You seem to be losing your memory lately Gromit.

If you do a little research (which seems to be your speciality) you will find that at one stage you were so personally insulting towards me, that I refused to join in any further debate with you for many weeks.

/// I have never have for example, wrongly accused you of supporting mass murderers///

Regarding this matter which you so conveniently took out of context. This was an instant remark I made because you did not seem to condemn that cowardly officer, that gunned down his fellow soldiers.
Your tacit approval of George Maben's crime is still deeply troubling, AOG.
KeyPlus. If the wests is deluded by the fake texts then so are the muftis.

It is the same with the Bible. Devotees inevitably claim their book has been misrepresented and cannot be anlaysed in detail because it stands a principle of moraity that can only be understood as a whole.

It is a pathetic excuse for placing the basis of a phioloopy beyond criticism.
Sorry, I replied to Keyplus's post, but I didn't answer your question, flipnflap. You ask what the appeal of the Muslim faith is, but I think you have to ask yourself to whom it actually appeals. In the main it appeals to those born and bred Muslims. Islam claims vastly increasing numbers, but I believe that is as a result the high birth rate amongst Muslims, rather than the numbers converting. If you read the Koran, you will find little there to recommend this religion to anyone who hasn't been indoctrinated with it from birth, and consequently knows little else.

As far as tolerance goes, it's tolerated because we like to think of ourselves as civilised people. However, again if you read the Koran, you will find that tolerance is not high on its agenda.
Naomi gave a reason that majority of women accept Islam are not doing that because of informed choice but due to the marriage. I am happy to hear that atleast they marry after studying someone. My wife is married to me so Naomi is right there. But my mother-in-law never married me or any other Muslim and still she accepted Islam because she saw some sort of difference between me and her other sons and son-in-laws. So may be next time Naomi would say,

Women accept Islam because their daughters are married to someone who is Muslim.
Keyplus....that is quite an interesting story and pretty uncommon I would have thought.

Let me get this straight in my own mind:

Your wife's family were ALL Muslim, until her daughter or one of her daughters married you and then she converted to Islam.

So, your father-in Law and the rest of the family are still NON.Muslim?

Are your in-laws still married?

Islam and you of course, must show exemplary life styles to stimulate religious conversion by your mother in law.
Sorry......

Your wife's family were ALL NON Muslim, until her daughter or one of her daughters married you and then she converted to Islam.
Your mother-in-law converted to Islam, Keyplus? Wow! Convincing argument! ;o)
Sqad, Yes my wife converted just before we got married, mother in law converted recently. Rest are still non-Muslim and they have no problem with it at all.
flipnflap..the appeal is by men, for the power it allows them over their women and children. Power breeds bullies/strength/armies/warfare. No moslem stands alone but depends on his peers for back-up. Hence they run to the mosque on Fridays to reinstate their solidarity. They have been indoctrinated from young, collectively, to abide by their imams. Should they step out of line they place themselves & their families at fatal risk.

The good bit about this is the top of the heirarchy of islam world are rich arabs - who are friendly with UK and USA and will blanket the rest of the rabble.

Read this quick - as it will be deleted by the bullies on here who dont like the truth.
