I have a male Staff and which I've only had for about 4 months. He's 5 years old and I've recently noticed that when he get's excited as in when someone get's home - not the other kind of excitement then he gets 2 hard balls sitting on either side of his penis. I have felt them as at first it scared the life out me as I instantly thought cancer. They're rock hard and it's not his testicles because they're still there. I can sort of push them back in to his groin and they also go away when he's calmed down again. They're about the size of 2 plums and have never seen anything like it. I've had male dogs before but maybe because he's very lean and short haired I have only noticed it now. But I don't know what it could be. Does any of you have any ideas? Is it something that's quite normal for male dogs? Other Staffie owner got any idea?

Serious answers only please. - Thank you

happy_face....Ever thought of having a vet look at that? I'm sure they went to vet school for 5+ years for something....and they usually know how to answer questions about canines!
don't worry the balls are perfectly normal they are part of your dog getting excited it happens to all dogs its the blood rushing to the penis ready for mateing :-)
They're just accessory sex glands which swell when the dog is excited.  Perfectly normal!

Thank youso much guys. I had a feeling that that was probably the case as they only appear when he's excited. But now that I'm reassured I feel much better. Great advice - top marks to both of you.
