MM Links Solutions December 2009 [Week 4]

Well, Princess Di (aka grannydi or “cyberchick”) finished off the year in a reasonably benevolent fashion. Under a rather obvious theme of “The Festive Season”, she chose the following link words:

COLD Turkey
SUMMER Pudding
Holly BERRY
SPRUCE Tree

My initial thoughts were that a couple of these were far from straightforward ~ but then again we have some devious minds taking part!

This week, it was Strix to be first off the blocks and what’s more he immediately scored a “hit” with COLD TURKEY for TWO POINTS! He was shortly followed by tearinghair, beejay and Dinkypuzzled who shared the same cold platter ~ each being eligible for a bonus point. Another early hit was made by Dustybun with HOLLY BERRY ~ landing a further TWO POINTS.

With these two hits available, scoring proved surprisingly light. A couple of regulars (who should know better) offered “Gum Tree” and “Yorkshire Pudding” among their predictions ~ in blatant defiance of the 4-8 letter rule! I note also cliffyg’s attempt to stitch up deecee131 by sabotaging his entry! Naughty, naughty!

It took the appearance of wickedtongue as Entrant #20 to pick off SUMMER PUDDING before the third hit could be claimed! Furthermore, it took yet another eight entrants before SHAZZA produced the highlight of the round with SPRUCE TREE (having first had her helping of Cold Turkey) for THREE POINTS. This qualifies her for the title of “Hot Shot of the Week”!

Worthy of special mention were the Ont-ices (who picked up Two Points between them) and birthday girl, roslyn (who picked up a couple of singles towards the close of play).

The all-important League Table after this final week is:

TEN POINTS: Strix & tearinghair
EIGHT POINTS: cliffyg
SIX POINTS: beejay, Dinkypuzzled, Dustybun, lysander & roslyn
FOUR POINTS: SHAZZA, deecee, fordward, Grenmus, jan1956, miss meg, wickedtongue & x-ray

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: Next month is actually a 5-week month with the first week being very close to New Year’s Day. I suggest that we all have a short break and begin January’s MM Links on Friday 8th January. This will still give us four weeks of competition of MM Links.

But who will exit 2009 as the MM Links Champion? As far as my records go, of the League leaders tabulated above, all are ex-champions EXCEPT roslyn and x-ray. Is this correct ~ please confirm! If this is the case, then the new MM Link Champion will be roslyn! Congratulations to Christmas birthday girl ~a fitting tribute indeed!
Let the bells ring out this Christmas for the new Queen of the Links!

We now have two full weeks to get things in order for the 2010 January launch. If anyone can assist in making email contact between roslyn and myself, I should be most grateful.

In the meantime, may I wish all you MM Linkers “Seasons Greetings” and remind you that MM friendships are for life ~ not just for Christmas!

I have so enjoyed this last month, only blight on the landscape was 'himself' who couldn't understand what it was all about!

Grannydi, thank you for all your posers over the last month. It has been fun, also, to think over my days, like your's, in Newcastle when dinosaurs still roamed the earth.
Coincidentally one of our friend's pitched up this evening with their daughter who is in her third year at what you and I would call the Poly in Newcastle. She is in a flat off Sandyford Road and to listen to her of her times as a student in 2009 Newcastle makes me feel like one of those dinosaurs I alluded to!

Good luck to roslyn with the settings.

And a special thanks to crofter - for until you have taken part in setting the posers you have no idea just how much effort crofter puts into making this whole little game work.

Thanks Princess Di for the last month, although I couldn't hit your wavelength at all, and Crofter for your hard work over the years, you deserve a break.

well, here's one happy bunny being comfortably in the mid-board area for this month. Well done grannydi!! and good luck to roslyn for January ~ once you have spent a month setting the links for this happy little game you will never be the same person again. Bit like being Lord Mayor of London!!
