Ive had this ocassionally in the past but the last few nights have been particularly bad, when im drifting off to sleep, I get a dizzy sensation to the point I have to wake up and sit up to make it stop....I have got a lot on my mind lately and wondered if it was some sort of anxiety attack? I dont get this during the day at all or night, only when im trying to sleep???

We sometimes refer to our mind being "in a whirl" because of insoluble problems and it might be that you work yourself into a frazzle at the quiet time of the day, just before sleep gives you some relief. Alternatively, you might have an inner ear or sinus infection which applies pressure / creates dizziness when you lie down. Perhaps you've had a cold recently? My suggestion is to see your GP and get the physical part eliminated before you and the GP discuss the potential benefit of some counselling if you don't have a really good friend with whom to share your anxiety. In the meanwhile, try to square any issues on your mind well before bedtime. I find writing down an issue and my conclusion downloads the stress and lets me rest easy.

What you are describing, does not in any way sound to me to be organic (diseased based) and I cannot think of any vertiginous disorder that come on just at night when one is going off to sleep.
It sounds as though it is a manifestation of any anxiety state and in my opinion would do nothing more than monitor the situation for a few weeks.
