CF is right, but to help you decide:
1. Is the extra cash likely to mean more than the loss of space?
2. A ground floor flat is better to get out of in a fire, but a first floor is better for security - windows open at night for example - which matters most to you?
3. Will you feel restricted by the smaller space?
4. How often do you have other people staying with...

And I thought my rent was expensive. £400 a month for a 2 bedroomed house.
So you're left with just over £400 and out of that you have to pay bills and food? I'd move somewhere cheaper if I was you.

well i live on £250 the rest pays for my car etc...
but then i loved the flat it really is a luxory that i can't afford seems likejust working topay for it but when youwalk from room to room it feal great in a studio flat well.. i will havethe extra money but no space.
If you do lose your job would it not be on health grounds, if this is the case do you not get your pension and lump sum as a result.

I was given early retirement on health grounds when I was 40 and received both a pension and lump sum. How many years service do you have?

Your housing costs seem really, really high to me - I think that £160 per month was the highest mortgage repayment that I had to pay.
