Nest help?

Hi, have just been pruning my Acer and have found a small [looks like a ] wasp nest hanging from a branch it's about 3'' long with the hole at the bottom. It is in habited by a rather large creature, that I suspect is a queen of some sort. What do I do? definitely not a bee! Will it grow in size or do some of these creatures lead the single life. If it's a single one I don't mind leaving it, but if it will get bigger it will have to go as it is on the patio and 4 foot from the house.
Any suggestions?

sounds like the start of a nest, pity it is so close to the house as it is fascinating to watch them being created, we had one in a shrub last year it finally looked like a ghostly grey lantern. It hung fronm a branch over the deck right near my waterbutt, we left it alone, and the wasps in it never bothered us. The wasps in the nest in the roofspace did though so we had them treated by the pest control bods... two different species I think.

I was really excited when I first saw it and if it were at the back of the garden [100' away] I would leave it! But I don't know what sort of creature it is for sure and can't risk there being loads of them :O{
I will try to post a pic of in in a minute, daughter is out there trying to get a decent one!

that definately looks like a wasp!!!! I reckon you are right and it is the queen.. setting up camp for lots of the workers!!! Hmmm.. You might want to call a wasp pest control to see what they think!

Hope it`s not too late to have it properly identified, it may be a queen bee and bees are in danger of disappearing, and if they do, so will we all.
