i am 59 years old made redundant after 20 yearsin my last job i am now a house husband my wife is working and i am not claiming anything from anyone do i need to inform anybody about my situation i have found it very difficult to get a job so this set up suits our family

we did the same sirivor - you probably are entitled to something, we never claimed when my husband was at home with the kids. He would get occasional weekend work and we didn't want to get into the whole business of declaring work so just didn't claim. What you can do, is transfer any child benefit to his name as that protects your NI contributions - if you don't have kids, you may need to speak to the Tax Office to see where you stand.
You are likely to be eligible for contribution based Job Seeker's Allowance for 6 months. This is not means tested.
