Bowel Prolapse

Hiya... Mum in law is having a bowel prolapse repair done in a few weeks time, does anyone know how long she will be off her feet, and when she can get back to driving etc? Ta in advance x

Depends upon how it is done and what you mean by "off her feet"

i would agree with squad. After most operations, they usualy like to get you on your feet ASAP (so for example, i was "on my feet" the same day as my recent hip replacement). However, the on my feet consisted of putting my legs over the side of the bed, standing with a gutter frame, and shuffling round onto a commode. On my feet in one sense, but not in another sense

Most are done now through the stomach, by incision or by laparoscopy, but some are done via the rectum..that will depend upon the surgeon and degree of prolapse.

Worse case scenario...in hospital between 6-8 days if it is the abdominal approach and less if it is done by the rectal approach.

"Off her feet"......I assume you mean before she can go back to work........6-8 weeks.

If you dont mean that then bednob´s answer is appropriate.

Thanks for your input everyone.. Off her feet.. lol... maybe I should have said... when will she be able to get back to normal.. as in racing around after everyone... she does loads of 'things' for the local church... and we'll be about 3 weeks away from christmas, she's wondering if she'll be able to do shopping etc, she wants to do it all before if not!.. thanks again.

i would deffo say do it first. Even if she has recovered enough, having operations can make you very tired (for example i am still having a sleep during the day nearly every day, 4 weeks later)
