Why are the elderly so attention seeking?

Please don't see me as a "pensioner basher" in any way as this is a very serious and valid question as I do love the elderly and after all most of us become elderly at some point.
My question comes from hearing about many elderly people telling their relatives that they will kill themselves and they don't want to be seen as a bother etc.. But then raise all kinds of hell that do indeed cause bother and disruption, even here before I signed up when I read time to time I always see members that have been identified as elderly taking things to heart and then threatening to leave only to reappear several days later with a "Cooee Im baack" Why is this done? Is this maybe a form of loneliness and a way to see how many friends they have or maybe a mild form of a degenerating brain disease? This has had me perplexxed for a long time so any input into understanding this condition will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
One confused amy.

mazie/salla.....have you read my posts?

Where have I said that one should respect people because of their age?

Show me!
There is no respect for the elderly nowadays sqad..........where I used to live they are just seen as an easy mugging target.
Can't be @rsed..... it's a sign of getting old(er) perhaps?
craft...LOL

Just waiting for the replies from mazie and salla......should be interesting!

That's because they can't chase you.

(ok ok ok, i'll stop now!)
mazie...salla has chickened out....what about you?
salla/ mazie.......a very intelligent approach to old age weaknesses when two middle aged women make a false statement and then base their debate on it.

Very long way to go before old age senility kicks in.
When I was living overseas elders were invariably treated with respect whatever their status. People of my parents generation would get the honorific auntie/uncle and those of my grandparents grandmother/father. An altogether more polite society.
I'm working sqad, so had to show willing.....I'll go back and re-read the post and get back to you. You'll have to bear with me as I'm old and chrotchety so could take some time x
Don't worry, you will find out one day. Some people are a pain at any age and others soldier on regardless.
