My portable tv is connected to freeview box. We have a correctly fitted roof aerial. In the last few weeks programmes are "breaking up" and sometimes frozen pictures for a few seconds. This has now become a nuisance, happening on all stations. Is there a solution, and what is causing this? I believe it is become more frequent in many households. Thank you in advance for any answers to this.

Breaking up means you are losing signal at some point. It may be the aerial is not up to it, or it needs boosting (get a gizmo at diy stores for about £15) or the actual connection to the box needs tidying up.
Ideally you need to install a better aerial but Asda will sell you a signal booster for £9, which will probably fix the problem.

For further detail as to why the signal strengths vary, please read my posts here:

(You'll see that the questioner was initially reluctant to accept that his aerial might be the cause of the problem but eventually it was proved to be so!)

Thank you, indeed, Postdog and Buenchico. You obviously know what you are talking about. Now all I have to worry about is whether the aerial fitter I can find to come knows what he's talking about and as I need a digital radio aerial as well I'm really worried! I will certainly look into all the points given.
Thanks for your reply. There are probably far more 'cowboy' aerial fitters than there are good ones. Find a CAI member (who should know what they're doing) from here:
