potterton boiler

my potterton gas central heating boiler keeps tripping out every few days; when i press the reset it starts up and runs Ok for a few days then it happens again. Anyone have similar experiences and how to fix problem.

Could be this..............

Certain Potterton boliers are renowned for doing just this and the problem was highlighted about 3-4 years ago on 'Watchdog' .....If you have one that is about 6-10 years old, could be the fault they found most common on them.

It appears to be linked to the Circuit board, which keeps making it cut out ( Do you get a RED light coming on as its called LOCKOUT), and if you call Potterton and tell them the fault they may still come out and change the circuit board free of charge, as they did with anyone that had one with the same fault.


OR could be something else.....might be even thatv your Main Gas supply getting through to the house appliances is low and turns the pilot off for the bolier so it cant fire up. Tell tale sign of this is if your gas flames, if you have them, are low, even when you turn them up high.

If you're Gas supply is low I would call The National Grid and tell them ASAP as they will organise a gas engineer to visit within about 4 hours to check supply and see what the problem is.

We had this done about 2-3 years ago......lady/guy from National Grid tells you about safety precautions and opening windows etc and gets an engineer out to you quickly to check for the cause and fix it.

Turned out ours was the expensive copper bulky bit ( ? )in the gas box outside our property, which was blocking the natural flow of the gas, so we were getting in about 8 when we should have been getting in in excess of 21. He set all OK tested it and happy days ensued :0)

Oh, forgot to add that he changed the part for a brand new one and took the old one away as apparently worth a bit for scrap, so he said. :0)

if there isn't enough air flow ours does this,,, as it did when I blocked the ventilator ...whoops!!

During the recent cold snap our meter outside froze up causing our supply pressure to drop. Is the gas on the cooler rings ok?
