Just found out that another car in my street was stolen on Friday night but they broke into a little bay window and cleared the family out ie 54" plasma, jewellery and money was taken. Loaded stuff into the stolen car and away they went.

Now as I live alone can anybody suggest how to keep my house safe. I cannot be doing with the burglar alarms as they are high pitched and I cannot hear it all. Any suggestions would helpful. Thanks

Contact local police for crime prevention advice. They will probably send someone round to inspect locks etc or give you a fact sheet with similar info on what to install..

You could ask RATTER15 if you could borrow his dog:

I think that might do the job?

In seriousness though: I would suggest some form of burglar alarm, despite your issues with the pitch.

All the best,

install electric circuitry across doors & windows & leave 'live' while out. Or, hidden CCTV cameras with VCR receiver in outside recepticle (old fridge?) so tape cant be nicked.
buy loads of bags of gravel and pour them all thee way around your house, no burglar will even set foot on it
I have heard that a "Beware of the dog" sign is a good deterrent.

Were the neighbours out at the time? Always leave a light on if going out.
Even if you can't hear the alarm it would scare the burglars off and alert the neighbours....
