But from what I have seen of women playing football professionally, I don't think they are as good as the male players and I'm not entirely convinced that ploughing more money or resources are ever going to change that.
I would like to think that women can be equal in skill as men at sport but I'm not sure it's true. I think most women are simply not built for it. As someone pointed out, a female athlete at the top of her game is not likely to beat a male athlete at the top of his.
I'd be happy to have my mind changed though :c)

I don't think they're good enough. Same with the womens rugby I've seen.

Why not ?
“I played against them in 1922,” recalled Paterson ’keeper Pete Renzulli. “We were national champions and we had a hell of a job beating them.” - he was talking about the Dick, Kerr Ladies Football Club when they toured the USA - they played 9 matches, won 3, lost 3 and drew 3, and all their opponents were men's teams.
Oh, and only one person has scored more goals than their leading goal scorer Lily Parr (who notched up over 1000 goals in a 30 year career), and that was Pele.

by the very fact that the mens game is much more physical then the answer is a resounding no..could you imagine a woman out of the womens super league [no matter how good she is] coming up against a 6ft 6in centre forward from the premier league..come on there is no contest..i like to watch any football game and have watched some womens games on the tv and excellent games they were too..and yes some women players are very.very good..but the mens league is the mens league and the womens league is the womens league..and so it should stay...
How would this work?
If a woman is good enough to play in top flight football, with and against men, then men can play with or against women. So we no longer have women only teams.
So bearing that in mind........... how many women could earn a living playing football?
or golf , or tennis or, swimming, or boxing, or , or or, or ............

joeluke - there's some women that play womens rugby that are good looking too, equally there are some fellas who play football that are scrawny wimps.
I'm sure I read somewhere, though, that women's phyiscality is far less suited to football than men's.. not only speed, strength etc, but in actually kicking a ball.. I can't remember where or when I read this though so can't find it to back up a point. There are some bloody good players though who would run rings round your average joe but I have trained with a girl who played for Tranmere ladies and I was better than her, and I'm no baller!

Yes, against other women, im willing to bet my last fiver that if you put her up against the top male footballers, her record wouldn't be nearly so impressive.

i am pretty much a feminist in many ways and will alway oppose sexism - however in this instance i think the physical differences would make women a target for some of the more unscrupulous and even bullying players...
although some women are large, strong and could floor most blokes and coul;d no doubt hold their own on a pitch full of men, many are not and would struggle to tackle etc - equally some men are puny and also struggle... but a line has to be drawn somewhere...
i think this is not an issue of sexism, but of nature...
perhaps there should be some options for mixed teams which use the boxing rules of weight for weight...? such as a middleweight team, welterweight, heavyweight etc - may be a bit difficult to manage but if enough people want it...
