Plum and cherry trees

What are the disadvantages of plum or cherry trees
I have a couple of gaps and would like to fill with productive trees

In that case, go for trees on dwarf rootstock because the you won't have to do all the pruning you would have to do on bigger trees

stella is a good general cherry comes on the colt rootstocks so should be easy to find a really dwarf one how about a wider selection of ballerina fruit trees you can squeeze in three into the space you would use for one normal one

I should explain that my gardening knowledge extends to dig a hole and pop a plant in
If you recommend anything I will just look it up on eBay and buy it there

Whichever you get just make sure you water it well, a bucketful at a time, for the first two years at least.

The advice re dwarf trees is really excellent, however, if you do not pick the fruit in the late summer they will make a mess of your lawn underneath. The fruit falls, rots and draws fly larvae like you wouldn't believe. Sometimes the birds eat them and if they've started to ferment... well ... it's kinda fun to watch the drunken birds. Cheap entertainment!

The cherry family have a limited life 20/25 years.
