I say that it rhymes with 'hole', 'pole', 'mole' etc...not as some folk say 'roll' which rhymes with 'bowl' 'soul' and 'scroll'... as examples.

i suppose if your emphasis is on the middle w sound, then they might sound slightly different, although bowl may well come out as bowel, which can't be proper.

Sorry ..it should have printed as 'Know.'
as in no not now ?
I pronounce them all the same way, but I can imagine you might pronounce role with the same vowel sound as 'go' and roll with the same sound, more or less, as 'got'. I think this is very much subject to local variations.

As this has developed on the basis of my pronunciation, I'll let you into the secret of saying the welsh double ell , as in 'Llanelli'.

Put your tounge against the roof of your mouth and throw out an 'L' each side. One Hell of a job at first; but practice makes perfect.

Hole, pole, mole, roll, soul and scroll are all rhyming words according to Chambers Dictionary's pronunciation guide, Ron.
I know what you mean, I am welsh as well and the way some people pronounce things is as you say like bo-wel, so-wel etc x the double ll haha and the ch sound ha it hurts to do that x
The rhyming all sound exactly the same to me.
