Student trip

I'm trying to organise a trip to Edinburgh this summer for a few days. The group would be 4 or 5 students (all about 18/19 years old), travelling from Birmingham or Coventry.

We were thinking about coach travel as it seems the cheapest option - my question is which would be the best company to use? We're not bothered about facilities or anything, the biggest concern is price. Also does anybody know what the staff are like regarding a group of teenagers possibly drinking alcohol for the 8-hour-or so trip? Heh.

Are you sure that coach travel is the cheapest option? I've just checked the prices for 4 people, out on 08/08 & back on 15/08 by air from Birmingham to Edinburgh. The flights, in both directions, are free. The only thing you have to pay for are the taxes & charges, of �39.98 each, for the return journey. The journey time is only about one and a quarter hours. (Those dates were just a couple I happened to try. There are plenty of other dates with free flights):

While the coach drivers might be prepared to stand the antics of a group of drunken students, you might find that you won't be too popular with some fellow passengers! If the economics work out, I strongly recommend travelling by air and then using the extra free time to head for the Standing Order (a Wetherspoon's pub) on George Street, Edinburgh where you'll find lots of lovely cheap booze and some great haggis, neeps and tatties!

National Express are pretty strict about not letting drunk people onto their coaches...so I've heard.

Reenie - we wouldn't be drunk when we got onto the coach...

henke - we have friends in Edinburgh, hence the specificness

It seems to me that there are other options, did you tryed shrt breaks promotions there must be plenty of them, I think even that Virgin trains are such promo's. I can give you some adresses for youth accomdation such as the Globtrotters inn who is 20 min with the bus from town they even have mini bus who is going to the town for a fee of 1 pound and they even can bring you back, The rooms are confortable. know because I send a lot of people there when organising there trip in Scotland and it is 500 yards away from where I live. sorry, I forgot to tell you that there is a bar in the Hostel, so you do not to worry to crawling to your bed in the middle of the night, and do not forget that we have now a smoking ban here in Scotland. For info Edinburgh offer a good night out also, everyting what you like to do

Globetrotter inns do seem to have rave reviews everywhere online. And the smoking ban will not be a problem since we're all non-smokers!
