(On behalf of my BIL) Sharp, constant pain in abdomen. When he gets up, it feels like a sharp stabbing pain.
Taken ibuprofen, which has taken the edge off, but it's now come back worse.
The pain is located below the belly button and to the right.
Could this be appendix, or is that the wrong place? Thanks.
Squad would probably give you the best answer. But yes, it could well be his appendix and he should go see a doctor asap. If it is getting worse, get him off to A&E. Not that this is necessarily one, but a ruptured appendix is not a good thing!! So, better to be safe than sorry!
The pain for an appendix can begin on the left or right and move down - its above the groin, right side on a man, just above the mons pubis equivalent on a woman.
You shoud get it checked soonest as a burst appendix is very serious. perionititis and all that.
How to test for appendicitis: slowly press two fingers into the area of the appendix, then release slowly. the pain will be a lot more acute on the release than the pressing down.
My money goes on cazz....it does sound muscular in origin, but appendicitis is an "outsider". Loss of appetite, feeling sick, maybe constipation are also significant pointers. Pain may start anywhere, but soon localises to the right lower side.
Google McBurney's point.
RATTER's contribution is also significant and is called "Rebound Phenomenon" and indicates peritonism an advanced stage of intra-abdominal "trouble"
Thanks for your answer, Squad. It's still a bit of a mystery. He went to the doctors, and they've taken a urine sample and also given him some painkillers.
They've told him the same, to monitor it over the next few days.
If it gets any worse, or continues, they are sending him for an immediate scan.
